Dear Midget parents,
I wanted to take a minute to relay some important and exciting news concerning our 2008 Midget team.
First I’d like to say that despite rumors to the contrary, we will be fielding a midget team this fall. I’m not sure how this rumor was started, but it is completely untrue.
Second, after meeting with state official last evening and getting an update on youth programs state-wide, we have decided to open-up the Midget program to all middle school students, up to age 15, with no weight restrictions.
This is a trend not only state wide but nation wide as well. I was informed at last evening’s NHYFSC monthly meeting that of the 10 midget teams in the state, only 2 (us and Pelham) were offering weight- restricted programs, with Pelham in the process of converting to unlimited. Even if we were to stay as a weight-restricted midget program, we’d still have to play all unlimited weight teams during the season.
This shift will allow many middle school aged players who currently play in other programs to rejoin their classmates with the Mustangs, make our squad much more competitive and bolster our roster even further. Also, as a Mustangs squad, they will be eligible to participate in state, regional and national playoffs.
Our Midget team will be head coached by Mark Cooney who joined the Mustangs last season after many successful seasons coaching in Pennsylvania. Mark, as well as our other head coaches, will be teaching and installing many of the schemes, plays and formations used at Milford High by head coach Keith Jones to have our players well prepared to step into the MHS football system.
Any players who are interested in registering for our Midget team or any squad may still do so by downloading the registration forms from our website and simply mailing them in. I am very excited about this upgrade to the Midget program and look forward to a very exciting and successful 2008 season.
